Two-time Olivier award-winner Griff Rhys Jones returns to the West End alongside BAFTA Award-winning comedian Lee Mack. They are joined by the brilliant Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey, Bad Education). Passion and purse strings go head to head in this hilarious new adaptation by Sean Foley (The Painkiller, The Ladykillers, Jeeves & Wooster) & Phil Porter of Moliere’s classic comedy.

Fanatical about protecting his wealth, the paranoid Harpagon suspects all of trying to filch his fortune and will go to any length to protect it. A matchmaker motivated only by money, he sets his sights on wealthy spouses for his son, Cleante and daughter Elise so his riches are safe from their grubby hands. He, meanwhile has lost his heart to the young and beautiful Mariane, a perfect match with one exception – she has no dowry.

And one other thing … Mariane has another suitor who has declared his undying love to her – none other than Cleante! While his daughter Elise is similarly undutiful and madly in love with the impoverished Valere. Two children in love with penniless paramours, one beauty loved by both a father and a son, and a big fortune under threat, Harpagon’s plans go terribly awry.

As true feelings and identities are revealed, will Harpagon allow his children to follow their hearts, or will his love of gold prove all-consuming? Passion and purse strings go head to head in this rip-roaring comedy by France’s greatest dramatist.
